WHAT IS THE DORE?

The DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation (DORE) is a scientifically developed on-road evaluation that tests specifically for decline in the cognitive skills needed for safe driving. Unlike other on-road tests, the DORE tests for cognitive impairment and not bad-habit errors that are common amongst experienced drivers.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation (DORE) is one of the only driving tests that compares the driving errors of healthy drivers against drivers that are cognitively impaired. The DORE is licensed for use to experienced on-road evaluators with a DriveABLE standardized road course. Our scoring system focuses on the driving errors that signal cognitive impairment. To protect the competent driver, the scoring system explicitly excludes errors that are those made by experienced, healthy drivers and not associated with competence decline.

THE DORE DIFFERENCE:

 Government Road Test

 DriveABLE On Road Evaluation

Tests for “rules of the road” errors common amongst experienced drivers Tests for competence decline and separates out bad habit errors common amongst experienced drivers
Results are based on the assessors personal judgment of the driver’s performance Results based on a scientifically validated computer algorithms
Assessors look for actions that demonstrate technical driving skills (e.g.: parallel parking, 3-point-turn etc.) Assessors look for actions indicating cognitive decline (e.g.: drifting into other lanes, inappropriate response to stimuli etc.)
Road course route is determined by legislative guidelines Route is determined based on scientific research to expose competence declines
Course difficulty is not standardized across centres of different size Course difficulty is standardized across centres of different size
For lesser infractions a point system is used to assess penalties DriveABLE uses computer algorithms and codes to determine which errors are competence defining and which are the result of bad habits
*DriveABLE assessors cannot take a license away regardless of evaluation results. Only a doctor and the licensing agency can make that decision.

WHAT YOU GET WITH THE DCAT SYSTEM:

  • + Scientifically validated
  • + Standardized road course
  • + Graduated standardized road course
  • + Unlimited technical support via phone and email
  • + Dedicated customer relationship manager
  • + Branded marketing package
  • + Branded reporting (digital and print)

FAIRNESS AND ACCURACY

DriveABLE has always placed the greatest importance on the fairness and accuracy of its assessment procedures for all drivers.

The DORE is:

  • + Fair for Urban and Rural Drivers (with a non-significant 2% difference between driver sets in the original research)
  • + Requires no knowledge of the road course area.
  • + Is equally difficult regardless of the size of the city it is performed in.
